Sick, Who Me? (WW # 154)

FITNESS  RELATED  POST  with us!

************************************************

For the first time in I can't remember when (10 Years? Maybe 15?) I got sick.  Very sick.  Sore throat, fever, non-stop coughing.  Ugh.  Sitting in the hot sun watching the Little League state championship playoffs from Friday through Tuesday did not help.  In case you missed the news, our grandson's team won at the state level and will be playing in the Little League World Series in North Carolina.   Go AUM Green!

Number 16 is my favorite!

By Wednesday, I felt a little better and went to work. The ladies at the office followed me around with a can of Lysol Disinfecting Spray.  Ha...you think I'm kidding.  My voice was almost non-existent.  I can't really blame that ALL on my illness.  I had screamed like a crazy HoHo for five days straight; sore throat be damned.

I planned to run Friday morning.  Really, I did.  But still feeling exhausted, I did not get up.  My running mojo was nowhere to be found.  Saturday I made plans to run with a friend, hoping that would be the kick in the pants I needed.   Again, I felt utterly exhausted.  The feels like 90 at 6:30 was unkind to me.  I had to stop repeatedly but was grateful for the company on this short run.

Sunday morning was spent at the lake.  I was finally able to ski behind our new boat  The conditions were perfect and I loved every second of it.  Enough said.

No zoom to show what 75 feet away really looks like.

So, I'm heading to Chicago for the Rock N Roll half marathon.  Who knows how that will go.  I did not get my last long run done and truth be told -- even before getting sick, I'd only made a feeble attempt to run the miles I should have.  I know it will be a fun trip regardless of what happens.

And that's a wrap!

When is the last time you were really sick?

Would you run a half marathon if you knew you were not prepared?

  2. I felt much like you during my first two weeks of summer break. I was tested for strep but it came back negative (thankfully), so I just had to wait it out.

Congrats again to your grandson. Little league can be very exciting. I went to the world series for the girls when it was in Seattle, then again in Delaware. Our girls won and our town has a sign up for them. It's sweet!

Have fun in Chicago! Part of me wished we were still coming to meet all the bloggers, but we have our own vacation going on this week!

    1. I thought I had developed bronchitis but thankfully that went away fairly quickly. How cool the girls in your town went to the World Series and you went to watch. It's a really big deal for the kids.

  3. Congratulations to your grandson's team - how exciting!

I hope you're feeling back to 100% soon, especially since you have your big weekend in Chicago coming up! Have fun with everyone!

As always, thanks for the linkup!

    1. Thanks, I am feeling better today. I hope I can at least run/walk the half marathon. I'd hate to go all that way and be forced to drop down to the 10k.

  4. Sorry to hear you've been sick, hope you're properly better soon. I was last REALLY ill at the start of my taper for the Manchester marathon in March. And through my taper. And on the day I didn't do the marathon. And, really, the weekend after when I did a marathon anyway.

Good luck for Chicago, I'm sure you've got it nailed!

    1. Thanks! I was hoping taking the extra days rest from running would help. Fingers crossed I can get more rest this week and feel OK at the half marathon.

    1. Thank you. I've gotten a really late start with my water skiing season. I've got some making up to do. Hopefully, I can extend skiing my time at least through September.

  7. Huge congrats to your grandson's team, but huge bummer on being sick! Don't push yourself before you're fully recovered -- it will only drag out your recovery.

    Yay for water skiing!

    1. That was my reasoning for not running from Sunday to Saturday. I do feel much better today. I hope I'll feel as good as new in a few days (well, except for the water skiing DOMS).

  8. Good luck in Chicago! I have run many, many half marathons for which I was not well prepared (more than I've run ones that I've prepared properly). You will be fine and you'll have fun! I hope you feel better soon, though. Being sick like that is awful. I had something like that in the fall of 2016 and I seriously couldn't get off the couch. Get well!

    1. Yeah, I have too. LOL. I think the combo of being sick and running in this heat was just a double whammy.

  9. Yes, I would run the half marathon...my base is strong enough that 13.1 miles (with friends) would not phase me (psst...I think your base is just as strong if not stronger). Looking to finally meeting my fav HoHo ;-)

    1. Yeah, after 56 half marathons I can probably finish. LOL. But, finishing well is another matter. I'm looking forward to meeting you too. I think it will feel more like a reunion, though. It feels like I know you already!

  11. Ugh, sorry to hear that you were feeling bad. I trust that you will definitely make the best out of your CHI weekend.

The last time I was really sick was in February when I got the flu for the first time ever (I think)!

    1. You know at one point, I thought maybe I had the flu -- which I don't think I'd ever had either. I was vaccinated but that doesn't always work. But then decided it was more an upper respiratory/bronchitis type issue.

  12. I got really sick in February after running my best 10k to date. Actually that race is probably what made it worse...lol...but I did it anyway. I was out for 10 whole days and my entire store was following me with lysol wipes as well. I haven't been that sick in years. I hope you feel much better this upcoming week and good luck in Chicago! I run halfs unplanned all the time and just do them for fun.

    1. I'm pretty sure the staff came in early and stayed late to wipe away my germs! I can't blame them though. I definitely will be doing this race for fun!

  13. Good luck in Chicago! The last time I was sick was in April when I flew out to cheer the Boston Marathon - I had the WORST sinus headache/infection. I hope you are back to 100% by then

I hope you feel great by Chicago! I've done a few halfs when I didn't feel great, but I've always trained for them. My body isn't happy if I don't & if the body ain't happy, I'm not happy.

  28. That just sounds miserable!!! Our family was sick for almost the entire month of February (flu followed by colds) but we’ve been healthy since then. I’m scared even to type that! (Hope we can keep up this streak) I hope you can enjoy the race despite being in sick recovery mode. The sore throat was worth cheering on your grandson! The Little League World Series - WOW!!!

  30. Good luck in Chicago and good luck to your grandson's team! I was last *really* sick two summers ago, with an infection that was not-quite-pneumonia (not a doctor, don't know what it was, but the dr. did say it was headed toward pneumonia). I had to take two rounds of antibiotics, and the second round was so strong that it messed up my stomach.

  32. So sorry you have been feeling poorly. With a two-year-old in daycare, I've had more than my fair share of germs the last couple of years. It has put a serious hurt on my efforts to stay in shape. Wishing you the best of luck in Chicago!

    1. I'm glad I wasn't sick this week. I would have had to drop out of the race and lost a good bit of money. The airline re-booking fee is more than what I paid for the ticket.

  34. I love my garmin fenix 5s! I got it when I was pregnant so this is the 1st time I'm really using it for my runs. I can't wait to see how I improve as the weeks go on. I don't mind very humid runs or those with high dewpoint either- but some times i just gotta get out there anyway! Thank goodness it cooled down this weekend here.
